3 Birds, One Stone

Summer is here and we have already marked some things off of our summer bucket list! We went to the beach with friends... during the day! I dont know if you can tell, but I'm pretty fair skinned. The sun and I dont get along. To make a long story short, the sun and I got in a fight many years ago. The sun slapped me with a sun burn and I have never forgiven him. So, its a pretty but deal that we went to the beach while the sun was out.

Brody was terrified of water last year. He would scream and cry at the mention of going in the water. But not this year!

It makes my heart SO happy so see my little man playing in the water. At times he even got a little too adventurous and was waist deep in water. That made mommy a little nervous!

Brody was so happy that his friend, Eian, joined us at the beach! It was Eian's first time at the beach and this kid was brave! No fear of water for him!

Brody is such a ham when I get the camera out.

Mommy and Mr. Cohen. He ate a lot of sand that day. Fiber, right?

Brody is marking another thing off our list, watching the sun set. No better place to watch it than at the beach.

Here are some more friends that joined for our beach day/bon fire, David and Kristen Wilkinson and David's mom, Doris. I'm sure they will be thrilled that I put this pic up of them. Hey, you're famous now!

Ah yes, a bon fire. That would be the third thing we marked off of our list that day. Three birds, one stone.

The Seitz Family Bucket List 2013

Pinterest told me to do a summer bucket list and I do what Pinterest tells me to do. Brody is super excited by EVERYTHING on the list! I really want to make this summer fun for him because he starts Kindergarten this fall. These are the awesome things on our list:

1. Pay for the person in line behind us (Dear person in line behind us that I plan on paying for, please don't order everything on the menu, I don't have that kind of money)

2. Smile and make people happy (Brody does this every day)

3. Send a care package to a soldier (Our church did this once. It felt great to give a box of goodies and fun things to our soldiers)

4. Have a BBQ with friends (We love friends and BBQing and I'm sure we will do this a few times this summer)

5. Go to a pirate park (I must admit that I already planned on taking the boys to a pirate park so I just added it to the list)

6. Go to VBS (I went to VBS for years and loved it. Brody starts tomorrow and is so excited)

7. Donate Blood (This one is obviously for mommy and daddy. I used to donate blood all the time but haven't done it in years... probably because the last time I did it, I passed out in front of A LOT of people)

8. Visit the Yorba Linda fire house and make them cookies (We live right next to the fire house and pass it almost every day. When we drive by it I have to roll Brody's window down so he can say hi to the firemen. If you call the ahead of time they will arrange to take you on a tour of the fire house. Brody is really excited for this one... and mommy is too)

9. Visit the Helicopter at the Nixon Library (When we go on walks on the bike trail, we always pass the helicopter at the Nixon Library. This helicopter was used by Nixon, Johnson, Kennedy and Ford. It is also the helicopter Nixon flew in when he resigned. We'll probably take a tour of the library too. Ive lived across the street from the library for 22 years and have never been inside it!)

 10. Donate toys to Orangewood (Orangewood is a group home in orange county. I lived there with my brother when I was very little (3 or 4). I have many memories of that place and have always wanted to go back and do something for them. They are always in need of help and donations. I thought it would be great for Brody to see where mommy lived when she was little. And why not bring some toys when we visit! I really want to teach my kids that its better to give. We all say that but do we actually teach that to our kids?)

11. Go on Grandpa's Boat (My father in law has a boat. We have been on it twice. The first time, we just went around the marina and looked at the billion dollar houses. The second time, we went out into the ocean to fish. Mommy didn't last too long. I had no idea I get sea sick. Oh well, it was a fun 15 minute trip. Now i know)

12. Pick watermelon at Tanaka Farms (This is another activity I already had planned with my mommy group. We went there earlier in the year and picked strawberries. We all loaded up in a tractor that took us around the farm. We stopped several times to sample fresh veggies that had been picked that morning. Then we all got off the tractor and were allowed to pick strawberries and eat as many as we could in 15 minutes. Think I averaged 10 a minute. The kids got a little basket to fill with strawberries and take home. We are really excited to pick watermelon.... I cant wait to see how many watermelon I can eat in 15 minutes!)

13. Ice cream for dinner (I must admit that I got this idea from Kate Gosselin from Jon and Kate Plus 8. I used to love that show and that's something she did with her kids once every summer. Just thought it was a fun idea and probably something Brody would remember when he was older)

14. Star Gazing (So, we don't see many stars here in Yorba Linda. I know they are up there... somewhere. Mommy is excited about this one! We are going to drive up to Big Bear and spend the day up there doing whatever it is you do in Big Bear. Then when the stars come out we'll lay on blankets and stare in awe. I think Brody is going to flip when he sees how many stars are in the sky)

15. Buy flowers for a friend (I love buying flowers for people. They never expect it and are so touched to know you have thought of them. We have bought flowers for our neighbor, Doris (84), a few times and she just loves it because I make Brody knock on the door and give them to her. Who will the lucky friend be this summer? Ive already had a few friends volunteer to receive the flowers)

16. Make dinner for Bill and Doris (I thinks its obvious that we love our neighbors! They are the sweetest couple. They've been married for 60something years. They've had 4 boys and sadly 3 of them have died. They love God and will share the Bible with anyone who walks by their front door. They are amazing and deserve a nice meal. They cant stand for very long so end up eating frozen dinners almost every night and that's just not ok with me. So my goal is to make them dinner a couple times a month)

17. Go to the Orange County fair (We love the fair! The fairs is good luck. Last year we walked around the fair ALL day and then next day I went into labor. I love to go every year)

18. Have a bon fire (nothing better than a bon fire. Making hot dogs on an open flame and roasting marshmallows for smores.... YUM! We try to do this a few times a year. Its the best when you go in to the winter. Yes, its very cold but you're the only one on the beach!!)

19. Have a pizza/movie party with friends (This one is for Brody. I want to invite some of his friends over for a movie and pizza, simple as that)

20. Go to the drive in movies (We do this at least every other month. Its so much fun. I remember going when I was little. There is a great drive in theater in Riverside. The prices a really cheap and the food is amazing! Carne asada burritos at a drive in theater? Heck yeah! Brody loves going!)

21. Play Mario Kart AAALLLL night (Brody is obsessed with Mario Bros and Mario Kart, like I was when I was a kid. So i thought it would be fun to let him stay up as late as he can playing. Honestly, my husband and I like playing too and most night the three of us play together before Brody goes to bed)

22. Go to the zoo (This is another fun trip I was already planning on going on with my mommy group. We take all the kids to the Santa Ana Zoo. Its a small zoo, which is nice. Only takes about an hour or so to walk through it. Then we sit down for a picnic lunch and let the kids play on the jungle gym. Perfect play date... expect last year it was 1,000 degrees and I was very pregnant lol)

23. Picnic at the park with friends (This is probably Brody's favorite thing to do with friends. What kid doesn't like the park!? Let them run loose for a few hours and enjoy them going to bed early that night)

24. Go to the beach with friends (I am more of a night time beach person but I guess once in a while its nice to go to the beach when the sun is out.... as long as its 75 degrees and cloudy)

25. Watch the sunset (No explanation needed)

26. Go to Sea World (Mommy hasn't been to Sea World since middle school and rumor has it, things have changed since then. So the fam bam is going to Sea World for two days!)

27. Watch fireworks (Who doesn't love fireworks! This activity is easy enough. Wait for July 4th to come around, go outside around 9pm, look up to the sky. BAM! Fireworks)

28. Camp out in the living room (Mommy doesn't like nature and nature doesn't like mommy so real camping is out of the question. Plus, daddy is really good at making forts! This will be fun. We will probably get out little grill out and make hot dogs. Then roast marshmallows over the stove)

29. Go on vacation (My husband has a client that lives in Temecula. She has a guest house and lets us stay there twice a year. So that's our vacation lol! That's when we are going to visit Sea World and we are also going to explore old town San Diego. FUN!)

30. Go to an Angels game (We've gone once this year and I figured if I put it on the bucket list my husband will have to take us again! We don't want to disappoint Brody, do we? I love the Angels, win or lose)

31. Collect canned goods to donate (This is another thing I put on the list because I wanted Brody to experience what it is to give)

There you have it!
